I was an armorer for a little while back in my Security Forces days. And we counted every weapon, every round of ammo, and anything else that was in there. If a single round of ammo was missing, it was like the end of days. Everyone searched for the round of ammo until it was found.

MSgt (Join to see) when the military, particularly the Army, started actively recruiting gang members, I knew down the road would be regrets. In my community, in the early-nid 2000s recruiters were in the community convincing gang members that the military needed their brand of brave.

While not good, in perspective it's not that bad, especially when you consider at least some were lost in combat operations. Putting that aside, considering that the military owns somewhere north of 4.5 million guns, the percentage lost is vanishingly small. Heck, the ATF lost more than that in Operation Fast and Furious ....
