The supremacy of the law dates to the founding of the Judean king, Saul. The Jews decided to cede sovereignty to a king thinking that it would make their nation more powerful. After all, they were surrounded by powerful nations all ruled by kings. The tribal leaders of the Jews agreed but under the condition that the king would be subject to the law. Sadly, the early kings - Saul, David, and Solomon - all broke the law and the Jews suffered for it. We see the same thing today with people begging to cede sovereignty to a central authority and as this transfer progresses over the past century, We the People have suffered for it.
