Much of the founding of this nation was influenced by slavery. Jefferson addressed slavery very little because he knew if they attempted to form this nation without slavery, they would lose the southern colonies.
(Jefferson: Architect of American Liberty, by John B Boles.)

And there was indeed a very strong fear throughout the south (and probably the north also) of a slave uprising.

Was that the reason behind the 2nd? Probably not completely but I would wager it was considered, at least in the minds of the slave holders.

I know there is a lot of consternation about the 1619 Project but we should not be afraid at looking at all of our history. Warts and all.

I agree MSG Stan Hutchison. We should look at our past with clear eyes but let's not blame everything on slavery and racism. There are many things in this country and around the world that never should have happened. My wife and I were just watching a documentary on the Tulsa bombing of Black Wall Street in 1921 and we knew very little about it. It is something that never should have happened.

SFC William Farrell - But it did and we must acknowledge that.

"let's not blame everything on slavery and racism."
Very many of the problems of this nation are the outcome of slavery and racism.
