A Muslim, friend of mine, Ali explained something to me just after I came back from OIF 1. He told me that most of the world sees us through the eyes of the media and not reality. They see the news showing all that is wrong with the USA and then watch our movies and think that this is actually the day to day lives of Americans. Sadly I think that many of us are starting to buy into the hype and believe it as well.
Ali also told me that our own media is our own greatest enemy. They are there whenever something is wrong and never there when something is right. I think the media and social media are feeding the fire when there does not need to be one.

MSgt Jeff Skipper,

Ali is very much and American as he came here in his teens and now much older, but being able to speak many languages he is able to see what most of us can not.

I agree SSG John Erny I have hosted inbedded reporters and was disappointed in what their takeaways from our mission were. Unfortunately not only our overseas allies but the general American public believe what they see in the media. I wish there was a way to bring truth and honesty to our main stream media but then that would "violate" their freedom of speech that has become their freedom to spin everything to the far left or right.

I agree, our media is our greatest enemy when it should be our greatest asset. The problem with that is that people LOVE violence, they LOVE chaos. Though none will admit to it it is why they are glued to the tv and constantly discussing everything that goes horribly wrong and change the channel when there is a story on about someone saving another persons life. Unfortunately, this will never change.

LCDR Bill Wright,

I agree, it is like they want to be treated like Rock Stars, be privy to OPSEC info, and are blind as bat when we are handing out food and toys.

No spin, just sad. Sad for the victims and sad for the young departed Airman.

Just depends on which version of the 6 o'clock news you watch and which agenda they want to promote. If anyone needed yet another reason to avoid wal-mart...

Sad
