The Russians were unforgiving and vicious as they chased the Germans and French. Those bastards had it coming to them.

The inevitable, but still took a while for Germans to figure it out.

The Germans were holding out in the hope that the US led forces would arrive. The Germans, and rightly so, were absolutely terrified of surrendering to the Russians, and High Command were trying to surrender to the west, not the USSR, unfortunately, and also unknown to those poor bastards, FDR and Eisenhower sold them out to Stalin.

Before I take some criticism, the Privates and junior NCO's of those German forces were no different then ours, basically their entire world was narrowed down into survival. No one cares to admit this, or even acknowledge this, but thousands of German prisoners were outright slaughtered by the Russians without trial or hearing.
