On April 18, 1955, Albert Einstein, German-born theoretical physicist and Nobel Prize laureate, died of an abdominal aortic aneurysm at the age of 76. From the article:
"Albert Einstein (March 14, 1879–April 18, 1955), a German-born theoretical physicist who lived during the 20th century, revolutionized scientific thought. Having developed the Theory of Relativity, Einstein opened the door for the development of atomic power and the creation of the atomic bomb.
Einstein is best known for his 1905 general theory of relativity, E=mc2, which posits that energy (E) equals mass (m) times the speed of light (c) squared. But his influence went far beyond that theory. Einstein's theories also changed thinking about how the planets revolve around the sun. For his scientific contributions, Einstein also won the 1921 Nobel Prize in physics.
Einstein also was forced to flee Nazi Germany after the rise of Adolf Hitler. It's no exaggeration to say that his theories indirectly helped lead the Allies to victory over the Axis powers in World War II, particularly the defeat of Japan."
