These types of stories happen all the time, but unfortunately the news media chooses to ignore them for the most part and focus on their perpetual 'yellow journalism' that provides them with their best ratings. Stories of 'good' are normally given less coverage due to the fact that they can't twist it into something worse. Most of the violent unrest from issues that have had media coverage - spiraled out of control due to the inappropriate wording utilized to create more news 'hype' than should have ever been aired (all media types). Unless your an idiot, you know that 'every' group or 'organization' has it's 'bad apples' - a group or organization shouldn't be pre-judged or discriminated just because a few of it's members are out of line. Wishful thinking I know, the world's news media wouldn't make any money if they only reported 'good' things and reported on 'bad' things without twisting them.

I agree MSgt (Join to see) --- unfortunately, there are a lot of idiots out there. Nice to see this story getting a lot of coverage though!

You are completely right, these are the types of stories the public needs to see - and more often. There are actually more good things happening in this world than bad - they just don't get the proper coverage (if at all).

It's sad that this is news for people to realize that not all cops are bad... and for people to realize not all minorities are bad.
But thanks to this story I have a little more faith in humanity that we can find the light again.

Your statement is very true, however since the 1960's our society has been vilifying the police more and more. I agree that most minorities are not bad, but I also believe that most minorities Love using these incidents to push their personal agendas.
I long for the days that the "Majority" rules. You have an issue, get it on the ballot, and we vote on it.
I was a LEO for a large agency for 22 years and we had less than 1 police shooting a year and of all the shootings only 2 offenders were killed. The cases with the 2 offenders that died domintaed the local news for weeks. But when officers risked their lives to save a drowning child, help someone in need, or just plain work towards a better community, that never got reported.
Their are bad guys out there and good guys out there, if the bad guys want to play then they will have to pay. As they so don't do the crime if you can't do the time.

The sad thing is that there are SOOOOO many stories like this that just don't "sell papers." It is much more news worthy to omit facts, show a 15 yr old picture from childhood, omit facts (on both sides), and judge them in the court of public opinion. Are there cops in need of jail? You bet! But I believe in my heart of hearts that we can find more than 1000 examles of honorable service for every one of even questionable inpropriety. Thanks for sharing this story GySgt Wayne A. Ekblad, I hope I run into a cop during my travels today, just to say "thank you" and let them know we owe our lives to their tireless efforts.

I totally agree with your assessment SFC Mark Merino --- I hope you get a chance to say "thank you" to a police officer this weekend ... in fact, thank him or her for me too!!!
