The National Guard welcomes and promotes women. That is, until they report a sexual assault.

Unfortunately some men will use their positions to force women to have sexual relations with them. I saw many cases brought up during the 70’s to the Staff Judge Advocates Office.

I've been involved with this during my career. It involved one of my soldiers in my section. He was falsely accused. Not because there was a misunderstanding, but simply falsely accused. That isn't to say when a report is made it is automatically false, but it is to say that sometimes innocent people are falsely accused and we should not believe all women. We should take a report seriously. We should conduct an honest and thorough investigation. The truth is what matters, not the feelings of the MeToo movement. I am of the opinion that if anyone falsely accuses for something like this, and it is determined to have been done intentionally, that should be the end of the accusers career because it would have been the end of the accused's career. At the same time, women who are assaulted should come forward because if we have an abuser within our ranks they need to be dealt with. Simply reporting and determining there isn't enough evidence to support the accusation should carry no repercussions for anyone involved, and certainly not against the accuser. If there is sufficient evidence, then move forward. If there is evidence of false accusation, then move forward on that. But to affect someone's career because they reported is just plain wrong.

We had something happen at Truax Field in Madison, WI. It went pretty quiet.
