Great Question Dale. In 2020, almost every month, excluding the summer break, ISIS was active in Africa, Europe, Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan, not to mention Pakistan and India, as well.
In 2021, for the past three months, ISIS has waged two attacks monthly to show its existence.
It is true that we killed the masterminds of ISIS and Al Qaeda, yet the ideology lives on today. Many splinter groups emerged after Al Qaeda lost ground in Afghanistan, post the war. Similarly, factions of Islamic State tore away and are resurrecting themselves under the ISIS ideology of a single Caliphate. Attacks in Niger, Mozambique, London and other European cities by ISIS is demonstrating that even after Baghdadi and Osama, the resurgence of the Islamic State is but obvious. The ideology lives on.
