At least one mech got launched by ejection seat while at Cherry Pt. A couple of Harriers flipped there too in the early 80s.

I was a controller in the Cherry Point Tower from 76-78. I saw at least 6 AV-8A's in Class A mishaps. The B model was significantly more stable in transition flight

MAJ Raymond Haynes - I got there around 81 and worked all over the Station. Those incidents were likely some of the stories, but a couple happened while I was there. We responded to Bogue Field when a Q2 Playboy EA6B splashed down there. Non-fatal but black boxes were under guard for a day or so. Co-workers at Fac Maint spoke of one that went through H&HS hangar, narrowly missing MCAS CG's A4. They had just finished a formation that would have been wiped out. Got a bunch of POVs instead, after sliding through the hangar.

Thanks for the share 1stSge Jim S. At least he got to realize his dream but at a cost of a other than honorable discharge. It could have been worse. He could have easily got a BCD or DD for that stunt. I guess because he returned safely the Marines were thankful enough to just do the OTH.
