One female General nominated to run Combatant Command. Another nominated to run major NON-combatant Command.
FTA: "TRANSCOM manages delivery of supplies and logistics coordination for U.S. troops moving around the globe."
Van Ovost is in line for TRANSCOM, which is a major command, but not a combatant one.
I was dubious about Richardson's expertise in combat command, because females have only recently been allowed into combat arms. So I looked her up. Based on her resume, I would say she definitely has the qualifications and the chops to do the job, and do it well.
Either way, I wish these two women the best of luck in their continued journey of kicking ass and taking names.

Opinion TBD. Combat is the wrong place to be experimenting. Only one name comes to mind on this question, " (BG) Janis Leigh Karpinski."
Time will tell, we are not about to stop all the fighting around the world any time soon. This experiment will get its results eventually. Right now, it a 50/50 proposition.

SFC Domingo M. It's fascinating that you assume, because they're women, this must be some social experiment. Did it never occur to you that perhaps they were just the most qualified?

SFC Michael Hasbun - I think I was pretty open-minded in my comment. I said what I think, and what I think is it could go either way. The same can be said about male commanders, not all Generals are meant to command. That is why many are limited to Administrative Staff positions based on their performance. Can you guarantee that any, male or female is going to be the best person for the job when your guarantee could cost people their lives? Unfortunately, many people think that leaders are made. I happen to believe that leaders are born and only improve through training. A General or any other person can get all the best training there is and in the end still not be worth two cents at their job. "That," we don't find out until the rubber meets the road. When lives are concerned. This is not exactly Garrison life we're talking about here. Failing in combat is not exactly the same as failing an Annual I.G. Inspection. I still say it could go either way.
