Not the first time that a hate group corrupted a symbol. The swastika originally had peaceful connotations before Nazis changed its appearance and used it for themselves

SFC Sczymanski James L. - I think the damage has already been done. There is no going back. If there is, then it would be up to the original creators of the symbol to make that decision.

SSgt Addison R. the 45th Infantry Division’s shoulder sleeve insignia was a swastika until 1939. Some things once contaminated, can’t be recovered.

I visited a museum in Colon next to the Cathedral. There was a Roman tile floor with swastikas on each corner.
