Uttarakhand glacier disaster: Fourteen dead after India glacier bursts dam

In the upper Rishiganga region of Chamoli in the Garhwal Hills, near Joshimath, the glacier burst due to global warming. The glaciers facing south having been receding faster than those facing north. The glacier burst and feel into the river and along the river between Joshimath and Rishikesh there are several hydroelectric power plants, of which two have been totally destroyed or severely damaged. This disaster has taken lives and over a hundred are missing. The National Disaster Response Teams, the Central Reserve Police Force and other disaster response agencies were rushed to the area to execute search and rescue operations.
