Technically that's not in the Constitution. It was a phrase uttered by Jefferson.

Yes the country was set up to not have state religion or to have our laws based on religion and for this to be a place for anyone to practice or not practice religion though. So the dude saying that the bible gives Trump the authority to assassinate people or do as he pleases is a moron.

And, if my research holds water, the separation of Church and State was suggested so they did not run afoul of a church run govt like England and the Catholic Church of England. We have allowed it to take on a different meaning by taking down the 10 Commandments (a reminder of self-evident moral principles), thumping politicians if they utter anything closely resembling Christianity (but the other faiths are fine on the Hill) and so much more.

I was raised Christian and understand moral principles and why they should be acknowledged and followed. I do not in any way advocate that Christianity be *the* religion of the US. I do acknowledge that most of our founding fathers were Christian and used those same principles in setting up the Declaration, Constitution and Bill of Rights. It very clearly states in those document a Creator endowed us with certain inalienable rights. Acknowledging that those rights came from a Creator and not man is central to our doctrine. And it is also central that man (government) cannot take away those rights.

But, we are now a divided nation even on those points...

Oh, don't stop there. They are all scammers. The evangelicals and all politicians. It's just disgusting.
