I've been studying history, with an emphasis on American history, all my life (a very long life now) and learned an interesting lesson. The worst of intentions, like the best of intentions, often go astray. The story of the Pledge of Allegiance told at this link is factually accurate. Now, some may use it to disparage the Pledge, but I wouldn't. How 'bout you?

How did you not know this is how the pledge of allegiance was created? It also was created by a Christian socialist. It did not have the words "under god" until 1954. It also didn't become the hand over the heart until the Nazi salute came around. That's what was done before that.
The pledge is pretty much meaningless. It's also very strange that we spout off about being this country of freedom but we pledge allegiance to anything.
