Never liked these type of studies. All based on statistics which can be manipulated to suit a purpose.

Good article from Military Times. Military pay can be a complicated issue because of multiple factors. Rank structure, job requirements (i.e. technical vs. tactical), cost of living (i.e. some bases in expensive vs. cheap areas) and other considerations are part of the socioeconomic equation.
