5th and 6th Regts. At the time the 4th MG Regt. as well I believe. From AEF WWI days.
Edit: Correction, it was 6th MG Bn, all part of 4th MEB, AEF. I got 4s mixed up, but remember first rifle # still. Sir, 4831662, Sir!

If you ever wondered where the Devil Dog (Teufelshunde) nickname came from, then perhaps a quick read of the Battle of Belleau Wood would be in place.

Because they gave themselves the nickname for PR purposes...

Did Marines, not German soldiers, coin the phrase ‘Devil Dogs’?
Despite what the legend says, there is no credible evidence that German troops used the term to describe Marines at Belleau Wood.

Better yet SFC Michael Hasbun,
Some reports say that Belleau itself wasn't captured by the Marines, but by the Army's 26th Division three weeks later. But who am I to argue?

But, there’s a good documentary that covers the Belleau Wood Battle Marine perspective. Pretty good documentary

Did German Soldiers Give the U.S. Marines the Nickname 'Teufelshunde?'
We look closer at the legend that the Germans gave the U.S. Marines the nickname "Teufelshunde" or "devil dogs" during World War I.
