It is very difficult to repair these ships. With the level of heat in the fire, many of those decks were so far warped they would have to be cut out and new ones put in... I did an inspection on a ship that had very damaging damage and it was repaired, and talking to the crew they always had problems with that area.

PO3 Bob McCord - No, she was offloaded and in the middle of a yard period. In fact, from what I understand the materials for decking were what caught on fire. Fire suppression systems were turned off. The most dangerous time for a ship and crew is not in combat with the Chinese or Russians, the most dangerous time for a ship is when they are in a shipyard !

Who would have know LT Brad McInnis. I obviously dont know anything about ships and I guess you cant compare the damage on a ship due to fire to that of another type of structure. I seem to remember that fire on a nuclear sub that was deliberately set by a jilted lover in Portsmouth, NH a few years ago. I can't recall of they scrapped the sub or repair it but I do remember a number close to a billion dollars!
