Is it about hating Republicans or about Christians doing our mandate of helping the poor? It's not the government's job to help the poor. It's my job. Democrats have just found a way to turn it into political capital while destroying the family. Ironically, destroying the family puts more people in poverty.

MSG Stan Hutchison - I am doing my job. Lot of people don't like what is offered because it means hard work, responsibility, reliance on God and self. Why do what's hard when the government pays you a better living than most blue collar workers to sit at home and do nothing, as long as they keep voting for the plantation masters?

A mistaken idea. I've know people that needed help. They received just enough to survive until they were able to work.
There are a lot of old "welfare" myths still floating around out there.

MSG Stan Hutchison - Food stamps for a family of 4, $649. Free phone, $40. Subsidized rent, $800. No insurance premium thanks to medicaid, $1600 (what it would cost me per month through my work, if I could afford it). That's $3089 tax free per month, or $37,608 a year. That doesn't count any of the other assistance available, but for which advertisements kept popping up for in my google feed as I researched it. Guess I need to change careers because I bust my rear all year long to make that kind of money.

SGT Russell Wickham - I suppose it depends on where one lives.
I believe your numbers are on the high side. For instance SNAP (food stamps):The average SNAP benefits per 2-children family were $393 per month.
Some good statistics;

There is a reason the founding fathers emphasized separation of church and state.

Actually, the Founding Fathers did not emphasize separation of church and state. You will not find it in the US Constitution. The 1st Amendment states, Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. The question of separation of church and state came along later, but is not part of the Constitution.

It's because poverty is one of those non hot button issues that can't cause emotion or religious feather ruffling.
