I think this is exactly what they need to do. Once the family sees it then release it to the media. I am a huge fan of bodycams. It protects the police and the victim. My only thing is that from initial reports, mind you initial reports, this was a justifiable shooting. He was coming at them with a deadly weapon. People say he suffered from a mental disorder...well, in my honest opinion, cops can't say stop, tell me if you have mental issues or not before I draw my weapon...we are asking young men and women in blue to make split second life or death decisions...we give them the best training we can and ask them to carry that out. I hope this was justifiable...the looting and rioting was and never is ok in my opinion. Stealing an innocent businesses stuff and destroying their property...how does that get your opinion across about a shooting? It doesn't...that is robbery with intent and destruction of property.

SFC William Farrell - having said that and I'm not blaming the family but if it was my family member I would be trying to get my neighbors or other people in the neighborhood to try and bring him under control before calling the police. Distract him and hit him with something, drop kick him..do something to restrain him because at the end of the day it's better than being dead. But instead nowadays we have everyone pulling out their cell phones and saying stupid shit. Honestly they are the ones that I'm really pissed at.

PO1 John F. Johnson - As you are obviously an officer, how would you have handled the situation?

PO1 John F. Johnson - HOW WERE THEY WRONG? Were you there to make that decision? Your life or theirs...it is easy to Monday morning quarterback this decision...it had nothing to do with race ot r anything else other than he was advancing at them with a lethal weapon...one second either way and they could have died versus him.

SSG (Join to see) - They filmed the entire situation instead of helping to diffuse...I agree they are to blame for letting this get out of hand.

The Philadelphia police are in a very unique position unlike some places not everyone here entirely hates our department. If they do things right they could gain more support. If they do things wrong it could backfire on them drastically

All body-cam footage will do is support the Police Depts initial statements regarding shooting. Numerous cellphone vids have been playing on the news clearly showing the man failing to obey orders and pursuing the officers with his knife. If you don’t like the way the Police handled that call, next time you go first and try to stop the man with the knife, and have the Police just watch, not assist, while YOU show them how it’s done. How many of you are willing to try? Put your life where your mouths are.
