1SG (Join to see) - That is still something the states, through their voters, should decide, not the supreme court to legislate from the bench. Women vote, and they make up half of our population, so it's not like they have no say in local and state elections to determine how their state legislates it. And to be quite open and honest about this subject, I have no desire to make it illegal, there are reasons why abortion is the right choice, I am against utilizing tax dollars to abort children in otherwise healthy women, who made the consentual choice to engage in sexual activity, and because of that choice, expect the public to fund, either fully or partially, the murder of the child. Either fully pay for it , or pay for health insurance that will cover it. As long as government funds are utilized to subsidize this, the General public not only should have a say, they have a right to a say , through who they vote for. want government out of abortion, take away the tax dollars.

SSG Robert Perrotto - I mentioned the slavery part because it is important to note how the electoral college came about. A system developed in a slavery period still being used in a non slavery era. I was highlighting your bit about civics and education. You will be hard pressed to get a good answer if you asked a random senior about the 2/5 discount. I find it odd you call it slavery nonsense when it was just of historical context and nothing more.

SSG Robert Perrotto - Additionally, i forgot to add in that the 2/5 discount is how the 3/5 compromise came about. You are pretty well read so I am sure you already know about it. It is more for the benefit of anyone else reading this.

1SG (Join to see) - I understand how it came about, and the immediate reason for it. The slave states wanted their slaves to count for population representation, so they could then gain representatives in congress, and to determine national elections. The non slaves states, in an effort to prevent fracturing the Union, compromised. The number of electoral votes are determined by the states population, as a certain population number adds or subtracts to the house of representatives, not to go below 4. Personally, I would not have compromised. Everyone knew that the slavery issue was going to come to a head, the non slave states should have stuck to their guns, and either forced the slave states to free them, or go to war, which eventually happened. This is something the Federal Government was mandated from the start, it just took a while for them to realize it. All men are created equal. No person should have the ability to own another person, and the people, through that same system, elected Lincoln. And the rest is history.

On a side note, popular vote was never the method in which a president was elected, each state had fairly equal say in determining who the President was. I would personally like to go back to the losing candidate becomes vice president, add a bipartisan aspect to the executive branch.
