Here's another article with a little more info:

Most of it makes sense in leaning toward death by suicide.
He was happy and had reenlisted - until he reported the sexual assault in May. Then his behavior changed. Reasonably so.
He got moved to a new unit (which is dumb) and he must have told his family he was being bullied and harassed in that new unit. That command claims they didn't know about any of it.
Last month his hospital stay was in the psychiatric unit. Also reasonable with all he went through.
It says his supervisor signed him out of the hospital and took him to a friend's - but he never made it in the house.
Could be foul play but also possible that he led his supervisor to think he was going to this house and once they left, he did what he may have already planned to do when he got out of the hospital. The one thing he could control that no one else could - his life.
Either way it's extremely heartbreaking. This could have been avoided. If he had just one person in either unit he even pretended to give a shit. It sounds like what happens to people who are sexually assaulted and have no support and feel hopeless.
To me - it sounds like there's a lot of toxic leadership at Hood. Yeah it's everywhere- I have had toxic leaders. It needs to stop everywhere. People don't want to report because of things like this. They get moved to a new unit - which makes no sense why you would ever move a victim unless they ask for it. Putting them in a brand new unit with people they don't know. No support system. And they still have the chance to run into their perpetrator on or off base.
It sounds like this kid was motivated and wanted to stay in the Army - and he was failed.
