I think he is crooked. Perhaps the USPS cans 150 mail sorting machines a year. This year it is almost 700 machines which can be a reduction of needed capacity. This year the USPS had planned on treating election mail as first-class only if it's marked first class, according to the documents, which were given to CNN by Don Cheney with the American Postal Workers Union Puget Sound Area Local 298. Election mail that was sent as "marketing mail" would not be delivered as quickly as first-class mail, a policy the document noted was "new." He is rigging the system.

SSgt GG-15 RET Jim Lint - They have no plans to bring back that capacity, machines, or replace them. Just because someone has a vested interest does not make them not credible. If I remember correctly mail has been slowed down so there is a valid concern regardless of party loyalties, and there are concerns of veterans receiving their meds in a timely manner.

Removing an inordinate number of sorting machines, reducing overtime, and the internal plan to possibly treating mail ballots as bulk mail shows me that efficiency and timeliness is not their priority. Far from it. It is a systematic approach making the process more inefficient.

In addition, the USPS director testified he had no idea of the number of sorting machines that would be scuttled and removed. I think that is a blatant lie. That would be like a Division Commander not knowing how many tanks he has. A leader keeps track of his most important assets.

Do you have the count of the sorting machines removed during the Obama administration? I’ve read elsewhere it’s in the thousands.
This is not about politics for me. It’s about optimizing logistics (one of my core competencies), especially with the constraints placed on the Post Office by Congress.
As an Engineering student in the mid 70’s, we toured Post Office distribution centers and analyzed their operations. When questioned why obvious short comings were not rectified, they quoted the congressional reg that prevented the changes. So, I’m somewhat jaded about congress pointing the finger at the PO.

COL David Turk - Which is cheaper. Sorting machines or lots of hours sorting by hand? Internal documents showed they contemplated treating ballots as bulk mail. Articles mention USPS concerns of not meeting the needs of mail in ballots as a fait accompli. Internal memos stating overtime is denied. It seems like everything they do is to chip away at efficiency and capacity. Possible disruptions to medications that are mailed. Where is the can do attitude?

MAJ Ken Landgren - don’t know the answers because I wasn’t involved in the study that got them where they are today. One of the first rules taught to us (as engineers) was to not make projections without the necessary research/information. Obviously that changed in the military to, make the best projection with the information in hand within the time frame allotted.
As a side note, the only time I had an incident with a mail in vote was, despite my request to have my absentee ballot sent to my duty station (Fort Bragg, NC), Los Angeles County (CA) sent it to my HOR (Valencia, CA) thus denying me the right to vote in that election.

10 of 12 out of the House. None out of the Senate.

It does not matter if either the house or senate have passed an appropriations bill, it has to be passed by both and they have to reconcile the differences. (This is especially when each party holds ONE of the houses....) Until reconciled and has POTUS signature, they have not completed their mission. Thank you for documenting that ZERO appropriation bills have been completed.... Hey, they have about 5 weeks to complete what they have had a year to work on... Great work ethic....and on top of that, they are on vacation! Thank you for paying $174,000 a year for each one of the Congressional Critters. (FYI, how does your OER look if you do not complete your missions?)
