MAJ Ken Landgren - Unfortunately Many were Scattered to the Winds by Mt Pinatubo.

We lived in a beautiful ranch house with marble floors and separate maid’s quarters. My father landscaped the yard with exotic plants he would find in the jungle to include the huge flowering plant that smelled like rotting meat. The grass was the short carpet grass. Large pots of tropical plants adorned our patio. Plants would bloom year round. In the back yard we had an aviary for parrots. My father was a bird whisperer. He had a big sulfur crested cockatoo named Picolo. Picolo had a Superman vest and cape for Halloween and a plaid vest for Christmas. I have so many fond memories growing up in the PI. Every weekend I had a roll of 400 pesos. A beer back then was 2 pesos. Needless to say, I ended up funding the drinking for my friends. I use to sneak out a lot. I would push the car or motorcycle out of the driveway. Needless to say I was tired all the time as I played sports and was somewhat diligent about my grades. I took the SAT with a terrible hangover and accidently sent [my results to an historic African American college. They even offered a full scholarship lol. I think my father wanted me to live vicariously through me. He tried to convince me to go to Hawaii for college. He would buy me a car and I could stay in the condo he owned. At 18 I knew I was too immature for Hawaii so I went to Texas to go to college. Well shit, that’s where I met my miserable ex. She so fucked me over. I was giving her $2000/month but she still filed bankruptcy. I got stuck with liability for her house, van, and credit cards. I was financially broken, but I can take pride that I took the high road and have no regrets for my actions. I am not mad about her anymore because she drank too much and is six feet under. Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen I was sent to the PI Jun 1991 to Meet USS Arkansas CGN-41 TAD for Desert Storm. I was Assigned to USS California CGN-36 which was in Dry Dock for RCOH in Bremerton, Which Sucked, No One wants to be on a Ship that is a Million Parts on a Pier being Rebuilt. I had No Idea How Much More "Entertaining" My Life Would Become. I Arrived in the PI on 11 Jun 1991 awaiting the Arrival of Arkansas. We had to Land at Subic NAS since Clark was Already Problematic. On 15 June the Big Eruption Began. I'm a Fiery Vigil Veteran. Mt Pinatubo Survivor.
