I did a weekly, mostly humor oriented “day in the life” column for my hometown newspaper when I was in Iraq. They set up an email for me so people could respond, and a WWII vet emailed to say nice things about me. He compared my storytelling style to Ernie Pyle and it is truly one of the most flattering things anyone has ever said about. I’m completely unworthy of such praise but damn...I smiled when I read that.
