This is an opinion piece but it could also be a fair warning of the shape of things to come. The orwellian revisionism of American History. It has been in high gear since George Floyd's Death but this story came out 7 months ago before the mob was 24/7.
Don't be to surprised if in 10 years this becomes the rewrite of history through leftist K-12:Grade and College lenses.
I heard this 1619 project described on National Public Radio possibly before the latest mob unrest. Fox News talks about it. This dove tails or is a nested concept of leftist history revisionism. They make a piss-poor excuse saying that capitalism is the legacy of slavery. What they don't tell you is it was a Southern States that mostly wanted to slavery and that's why they seceded in 1860. Republicans were the ones that were against Slavery. Sure President Johnson passed the Civil Rights Ammendments in the 60s but Republicans were for this since the 1860s

Its amazing the mislead support for the very party that used and pushed slavery and the tactics to divide and conquer and complete ignorance and lack of historic knowledge playing right into their conspiracy . The very tactic used over and over gain to establish Dictatorships plus Marxist Socialism/Communism. The dumb up of the public is working with far too many people Who haven't a clue what is going on and have been indoctrinated , NOT educated.

The following sentence from your commentary also shows gross oversimplification and a high degree of social as well as historical bigotry.

You are 1000% correct that the 1619 project is horrible. So is ignorance. 99% of what is taught about the causes of the war in US public & private schools is either completely incorrect or the facts have been so manipulated as to be essentially false. Like most history, the issues surrounding the "War of Northern Aggression" (commonly misnamed the Civil War) are exceptionally complex. If all social order were to collapse and open warfare break out between Patriotic Americans and the Socialist/Communist Mob, the causes would be far more complex than "the patriots growing tired of the looting and pillaging decided to wage open war upon them".

LTC (Join to see) - Anti-Southern revisionism has been going on at least from the 1960's. The destruction of our Southern heritage and history is a natural outgrowth of this. Living in Richmond, VA, I was right on the cutting edge during the destruction of Monument Avenue. They are behaving just like the Taliban. All fascists behave similarly.
