PO1 H Gene Lawrence - Years ago the VA paid for me to go to a civilian doctor of my choice. I was having a pain in the center of my chest, outside of the rib cage but well under the skin. I described the pain and pointed to where I had been shot. The doctor didn't even ask about the scar and "diagnosed" it as pleurisy. What a quack. So I had two choices: move to Chicago or return to VA -- two places where they're used to seeing bullet wounds and know how to treat them. Other than two kidney stones and one cold, my only health issues since going to Viet Nam have been gun shot or shrapnel wounds and their residuals.
