Autonomy of the European Union is a good thing. NATO revitalization is a positive goal. But not at the cost of US-Europe transatlantic relations. Hopefully, any shift of power to China isn’t detrimental to US influence in Europe or Asia.

Promises in the dark.... The old Pat Benatar song but Germany and others just don't pull their slack. Even Canada is at 1.2% President trump has damn good justification to be mad! The joke is on nato because they have all their natural gas coming from their potential rival Russia. Canada could set up a liquid natural gas terminals in the East Coast and ship liquefied natural gas to Europe but all the environmental nazis don't want this.

We are leaving a vacuum behind us as we retreat, someone always fills a power vacuum. And since it takes economic and military power China and perhaps Russia are the only possible beneficiaries/ Russian in the short term can work to get it's empire back and China can become a full fledged superpower in the longer term.

LTC (Join to see) You know as well as I do that alliances depend on trust and mutual support, not equal opportunities and expectations. Instead of constantly complaining about who should pay their 2% of GDP, we can always cut back how much we contribute. It’s a goal not a mandate. Then again we’ve only spend more on our defense than multiple allies combined so we’re always demanding more of others without real cause just ego.
