Good for Senator Duckworth, and even better for our troubled democracy.

The Senator is doing the exact same thing she is accusing the Trump Administration of doing. Why not just let the promotions go through and see what happens instead of the public grandstanding?

President Trump is his CINC and while it is his duty to speak up when something is not right, you still serve at the pleasure of the president. He played his cards and if the President doesn’t want to promote, so be it.

President Trump is the commander in chief, but there is legal protection for military whistleblowers, The Military Whistleblower Protection Act, which “prohibits any person from taking, withholding, or threatening any personnel action against a member of the Armed Forces as reprisal for making or preparing any protected communications.” Protected communications includes testimony to Congress, reports to the IG.

It’s the duty of the executive branch to enforce this, so there will be little legal repercussions for the president withholding a promotion, but it doesn’t make it right. That being said, two wrongs don’t make a right in this case with the senator’s hold.
