I can blame the Philippines for some of the mess they are in. They played China and the US. They won't allow large US basing in the country, but what gives me a little confidence is the Filipino Minister of Defense trusts the US more than China. There is a possibility that the US Navy will have more access to Subic Bay. US and Australian firms are planning to turn Subic Bay into a logistical hub. The Chinese wanted to buy leases in or around Subic Bay, but the Filipinos to their credit, turned them down.

Sgt (Join to see) - Thanks. The average Filipinos remember that we freed the country of the vicious Japanese army in the Philippines. We sent 200,000 soldiers to fight the Japanese. 15,000 died and 50,000 were wounded. The greatest naval battle in history is the Battle of the Philippine Sea. We had an armada of 600 war ships and 100,000 sailors. The loss of sailors in naval battles is too minimized.
I believe after that battle, the Japanese lost all or most of the battleships and aircraft carriers, they were incapable of conducting naval aviation after the battle. At that time the US fielded 27 aircraft carriers. Our industrial might was out of the world. Later we focused decimating their supply ships, destroyers, battleships. When that was complete, we focused on destroying the Japanese merchant marine capability.
In essence. The Pacific was Japan's Russia. The Japanese navy disagreed with the army in regards to the occupying vast swaths of Pacific islands and countries, but the army won out. The navy was right, as the war progressed, their ability to support various countries and islands became impossible. I am curious what the Japanese ate and where they found water in their isolation.
