Current LEO, here my 2 cents. What he did was complete foul and should indeed be accoutable for his actions. The things is right now the syress levels are off the charts...even for me with 2 prior deployments as a grunt. Add stress, sleep deprivation and lack of food...you get these results. Officers are just not trained to handle this situation we are in. Agian not saying he should get a pass, just stating it migjt not be that jes a shit bag, just cant handle the totaility of circumstamces. Or who knows, maybe he just got on shift and is indeed a asshole

Yes but does that mean they were a turd overall? My point is that a critical mistake should get people fired, but
cant judge their overall character based on a decision made during a highly stressful time. Now if there is a history of bad decision and overall bad character, then yes you can attack his morality.

I completely agree with departments are all different. The situation for the old man is that the commanding officer is trying to hold the line towards looters. A lot of officers are not medically trained. Again should they have helped yes, but we dont know the SOPs. They could of been breifed to move as one no matter what, and a following attavhment behind will take care of injuried. The obvious thing i notice was the officers had a demeanor that shows inexperience. Buffalo PD most likely doesnt train in riot scenarios. Never the less, yes different decisioms should of been made. But i hold the leadership accountable for that one.

SSG (Join to see) - Part of what is being laid bare here is the disconnect between what law enforcement is being trained to do, and what the public expectation is on what they will be trained to do.
In my mind part of the disconnect starts right in the name, law enforcement. It implies the primary duty of the police is to the law and not protect the community. This sets up an advesarial relationship between the police and the communities they operate in. Once again, I think that the expectation of the public is that the police are primarily there to protect the community and in so doing may arrest some people who are breaking the law.
