Mullen has never been fully supportive of the National Guard and he was against elevation of a National Guard General to the JCS level. Having said that, Mullen could have made it very clear in his comments the DC National Guard is the only National Guard in the United States that is permanently under Federal command. Otherwise I agree with his comments the protestors should not have been interfered with until after the curfew was in place. Though given Mullens past I can't rely on his comments to be without political intent to slam the National Guard publicly.
