Half the Royal Navy's home guard force was busy chasing the Bismarck and her escort, Prince Eugen. If it wasn't for rudder damage, the Bismarck would have extracted a heavier toll. As it was, the Brits had a hell of time taking her out of action.

Actually it was the cruiser Prince Eugen that took out Hood. Bismarck was arguing over whether to fight or run. Meanwhile, Eugen is fighting for her life against Hood and Prince Of Wales. Eugen gets three destructive hits on Hood before Bismarck gets into the fight. Closest ship/threat to Bismarck is POW. Eugen fires her fourth salvo which hits “a ship”, Bismarck’s first salvo hits “a ship” and POW gets one gun working and fires.
1. No one hits Eugen
2. POWs armored conning tower is penetrated.
3. BIsmarcks bow is penetrated.
4. Hoods guns fire as she’s sinking.
In order for POW to have hit Bismarck, she’d had to have fired over Hood. In order for Eugen to penetrate POWs bridge, she’d have had to fire over Bismarck and Hood - plus have a battleship shell come out of her gun! Not gonna happen. Only one that could of done it (plus they found 15” inch fragments) is Bismarck. So using the dealey plaza magic bullet, Bismarck’s shell went through Hood and then hit POW. Lol. Bismarck started fighting too late. USA and UK ships can share settings but German ships can’t.
So as Hood’s first hit and second hit came from Eugen, it’s 180% likely that her third hit will as well. Germany cannot bear Bismarck sinking empty handed so “pride of the German Navy sinks pride of the Royal Navy is the headline. POWs skipper is due to be court martialed for cowardice from Churchill, so the life altering hole in Bismarck’s bow (it really wasn’t) was given to POW.
