Actually, as a specialist I got more done than at any time in my service. As a Buck Sergeant I never once smoked a subordinate -- because I didn't have any. They use the term diddling for Sergeants -- now you're talking fraternization, of which I was guilty. But she was a Captain.

I was privy to the 18th ABC staff in Iraq. All the MAJs I saw in the palace looked like their spirits were broken. They were responsible for all the initial planning. I was really impressed with a Marine MAJ. All the OPORDs and FRAGOs went through him. He was smart, organized, and affable.
