I don't care if he was jogging 200 miles from his house. The father is a retired police officer. He has ZERO authority to try and detain him... It would be like me as a former LT, going on to a Navy ship and trying to run things, they would kick my a## off the ship! The retired LEO had the authority to call the police and give an approximate location and description, that is it.

SSgt Joseph Baptist - I'm sorry you can't read and comprehend that I was saying you two need to take your arguments somewhere else, because I keep getting notifications filling my timeline because you replied in my comment thread. I was being civil to both of you. Unfortunately, you are too entrenched in your beliefs to understand that not everyone wants to hear your crap. Start your own comment, and stop commenting in mine...

Sir, many states can “arrest” or detain people.
Under California Penal Code 837 PC, a private person is authorized to make a citizen’s arrest in California when the perpetrator commits a misdemeanor in a citizen’s presence or commits a felony and a citizen has reasonable cause to believe the perpetrator committed it.
I don’t advocate shooting someone. Trespassing is not a capital offense.

A good rule of thumb is to not pull a firearm unless you are doing so to protect yours or someone else’s life. Property can be replaced, lives taken can not. Unless they had a credible fear for their life and could not disengage they were in the wrong. Suspect they will spend several years in prison.

Even if all that is true, they have a problem using deadly force against an unarmed suspect.

Almost every self defense expert would tell/train someone to put distance and cover between the threat, not run towards them and engage them. There is a reason for this action that needs answers.

SSgt William Quinn And the father had long experience in law enforcement and force escalation. Bet the find a lot of racial implications during the investigation. Most racial discrimination is learned at home, that includes all sides of the equation.

MCPO Roger Collins - But have we heard his statement of fact? nope. If this guy was a racist, do you not think, that in his long career in PD and as a DA investigator, that possibility might have come up in his career? No saying it's not possible, but I am not ready to make assumptions without facts.
