First, the President can fire anyone in the Executive Branch for any reason.
Second, there is no doubt the President made this move when he did so the coverage of it would be buried by Covid news.
Third, I think it is an open question if this person acted appropriately, but as the saying goes, "if you try and kill the king, you'd best not miss".
He missed.

I would have to agree with the president on this one, and no matter the reason the president has the right to replace him. Washington D.C seems to be infested with way too many political people willing to do the bidding of the entrenched Powerhouses of the political establishment. They seem to have forgotten that they have an at-will job in D.C.
