He saved the lives of people under his command today. To most people that's what matters.

The Canoe Club didn't burn him because he saved his shipmates..... He got burnt for sending a "LETTER" to the Navy, by way of every open source news media.... basically broadcasting to the world that a major "tip of the spear" was broken. The Captain knows how to send a secured/classified PERSONAL FOR naval message stating his case. When that letter was leaked via his own email.... he shot his career in the foot.... and since he'd contracted the virus himself.... I'm inclined to believe he knew exactly what he was doing to get off that ship/carrier..... IMHO.
