Destroyers left behind: US Navy cancels plans to extend service lives of its workhorse DDGs

Some important decisions have to be made. First, defining future missions (prognosticating/spit-balling future war requirements). Has anyone ever done it well? Only then can we make intelligent decisions on what to build/how to spend the defense budget. I think it's safe to say that we'll be wrong whatever we do, and even "wronger" if we do nothing...
