It looks interesting as we lost so many ships in the Atlantic and even off our coast. I believe coastal cities were finally told to turn off their lights in order not to give the U-Boats good references. I also think one of the ways we turned the tide was using an area strategy of the fleets. When a ship was attacked the other ships dropped depth chargers. I am not sure of this. My guess was 1941.

1942 was the start of concentrated efforts from both sides. Operation Drum Beat was the code name for the German leg of the offensive. And gosh darn it, we weren't about to let some limey has-beens from ww1 tell us how to run our defenses. So instead we lost hundreds of men and dozens of ships. Eventually the president - being an Anglophile - would pressure Admiral King to "pull his finger out" and head to England to be taught how to convoy. He did and the killings tapered off.
