GRE at CCC may be good idea. We have had some officers who got commissioned from weak or for-profit colleges or universities. Some of them have struggled with or cheated at higher level military education such as CGSOC or War College. Some of those officers have also chosen to seek weak or for-profit graduate degrees for career continuation which projects a dubious image.
By having them take GRE, it provides Army a chance to see who is smart enough to truly continue at field-grade rank. In addition, it can encourage smart officers to pursue degrees from more prestigious schools instead of settling on mediocre schools who waive GRE.

I think it could be beneficial to distinguish officers in the line community, but makes no sense for medical officers

1SG (Anonymous) - While the GRE is meant for graduate school admission, it can still be useful for Army officer career. A master's degree is an unofficial requirement for field grades to advance and Army offers master degree programs as part of broadening experience. This can still be a discriminator for OML

Bad idea. First the Army is going to pay for these folks to take a test they have not prepared them for and second rate them off those results. Personally I believe the Army already has to many things for young officers to worry about outside of the job the Army hired them to do and prepping for this is another one. Looking at GRE scores and APFT is like me writing out my credentials, RN, MSHS, CEN, CCRN, EMT-P, ATCN; you can say I am a good test taker but can I do the job? I fear with DHA and MAP, we will lose more talent with this.

Many of my medical colleagues are talking about getting out after their initial obligation because of this requirement and extended CCC. The rest of the Army doesn't have to worry about maintaining their CE, patient care, and board certification.

MAJ (Join to see) - Big Army is just not connecting with career fields that only missions in combat zones and careers that have missions both deployed and in garrison. We are not the only ones, MPs here draw weapons 0430, patrol for 8hrs, and then do PT. I never really had any desire to be combat arms but it must be nice when not deployed you can spend your entire garrison time doing the things the Army finds important.
