Military community helps Marine after her family dies driving to Parris Island graduation

Chloe Maples was about to complete one of the most grueling tasks, graduating from boot camp at South Carolina’s Parris Island recruiting depot.
But days before she would be named one of “the few, the proud,” she received crushing news: Her mother and sister had died in a car accident on her way to see her graduate. It was almost a year to the day that she lost her father on her birthday, as well.
“Her mother and little sister were killed on their way to watch her graduate,” her Marine Corps mentor, Christopher Falls, wrote on a GoFundMe Page. “After all of this, she still has the courage to walk and graduate with her fellow Marines.”

Too bad there was no GoFundMe when my mother was killed in traffic accident one week after I went into Boot, 1971. Good thing about Marine in this case is she didn't have to worry about younger siblings who became her dependents upon her mom's death. Gotta wonder if she would have suffered discrimination of not being offered hardship discharge if she had become "family matron," as in my case. Another good thing is, by graduating, she had chance to know her rights as military personnel. I learned nothing about how much injustice I'd suffered 'til 28 yrs after the fact, & injustices continue being heaped on me.
