Too bad there was no GoFundMe when my mother was killed in traffic accident one week after I went into Boot, 1971. Good thing about Marine in this case is she didn't have to worry about younger siblings who became her dependents upon her mom's death. Gotta wonder if she would have suffered discrimination of not being offered hardship discharge if she had become "family matron," as in my case. Another good thing is, by graduating, she had chance to know her rights as military personnel. I learned nothing about how much injustice I'd suffered 'til 28 yrs after the fact, & injustices continue being heaped on me.
