I wanted this partisan sham over as soon as possible but agree Republicans should not be against Romney's vote. Just the shame as the Dems should not have issues with Gabbard voting present over this. These are the people we need to stop this partisan crap.

Had the house investigation been fair and more thorough and not rushed through for effect. Had the whistleblower (really leaker) been required to testify. Had the GOP been able to call the witnesses they wanted to call in the house. Had the democrats allowed the president's attorneys to cross examine the house witnessed. Had the democrats released all of 18 witnessed testimony, etc.. etc. etc. I might could have gone along with the charade for more witnesses too.
CPAC is a private organization. You have to be invited to go and consequently you can be disinvited. Romney should just change his affiliation to independent or perhaps democrat and get it over with.
The democrats only wanted witnessed for two reasons.
1. They did a rushed, poorly constructed impeachment investigation and they knew it.
2. They do not have the votes to convict and remove.
If they had 67 votes they would not be pushing for witnesses, they would be pushing for a vote. They are getting what they deserve now. A quick dispatch for wasting time, effort and money.

I agree with all you say and still would be inclined to side with Romney. However, what I want is not to be and now must hope that the criminal justice system might finally get to work and begin prosecuting the bad players in this drama

The only way to keep the democrats in the house from doing this now and in the future is my summarily rejecting the impeachment/charge. The GOP gave it far more respect than it deserved by having a trial. They should have voted to dismiss it when it arrived If the democrats want respect in the senate, their process needs to be fair and above board in the house. Giving them what they want/ask for is simply capitulation and will get them (the senate) another impeachment charge a year from now when Trump wins re-election.
If the process were fair, they had a strong case and there was some bipartisan support then perhaps we should/could hear more witnesses. The democrats now they have lost and are only trying to muddy the water. Time to cut them off.
