The fact we leave them and don’t clear the fields when we are done leaves much to be desired. They work but are vicious lost weapons after a war killing thousand of children.

SFC Bernard Walko - And as another Engineer, the world wide problem with landmines isn't a we problem, it's a them problem. We started using self detonating scatterable mines back as far as Vietnam and our system of marking and retrieval has been pretty damn go. The issue has been in these brush fire wars where everyone scatters anti personnel and anti vehicle mines all over the place without any direction or marking, or retrieval program. Additionally, most of the Soviet Block scatterable mines did not self destruct.

Definitely not a great weapon to have laying around and not accounted for later.

The best land mine system is the Volcano system look it up. It will auto destruct.
