There was a big difference in the standard of living between the two countries.

I am by far not an expert, but I have read that East and West Germany had some growing pains. Kind of like the North and the South in the US.

MAJ Ken Landgren Same Here, I'm No Expert on Germany but No Doubting My "Heritage" being Prussian, Bavarian and Lower Saxon.
