The situation sounds a lot like when the US Navy shot down one of their passenger planes in 1988

I suspect that most everyone already guessed that, and that the reflex to shoot was inspired by fear. That fear tells me that Present Trump is succeeding at diplomacy.

See my comment in this regard about the extent of collateral damage during combat. My sense that some on this platform did not experience combat, and/or are not trained medics as I was.
