I have read the fires are so extensive they create their own weather. The heat evaporates the possibility of rain, and the lightening and flames in the storm create more fires. It has a life of its own.

I fought small fires at the tank ranges with my boots. I learned rather quickly to kick toward the center of fire or do the opposite and make fire bigger lolPO1 William "Chip" Nagel

MAJ Ken Landgren - I was still Smoking at the time. I Learned I didn't need a Lighter. Also Learned that even though "I Thought" I did a Good Job making a Fire Line if You Really want to check the Quality of Your Work. Sit on the Ground and have a Ciggy. If Your Butt starts burning there's a Root burning Underground trying to go Under Your Fire Line. Another bit of Wisdom When the Roots burn out from under a Big Tree they Fall Real Good, Hopefully Not On You.
