The other two consequences of this act was it allowed the rapid expansion of the plantation system and cotton as the major money making crop and increased the demand for slaves and further institutionalized slavery.
As a personal opinion of someone that was born in South Dakota, those tribes removed to Oklahoma where there was not a reservation system seemed to have developed and thrived beyond their brethren on the Reservations. Even the influx of legalized gambling doesn't seem to have had much of an effect on the larger reservations.
