Having been a teacher of many a functionally illiterate teenager, I love this poem.
The greatest thing we could do in America to help struggling students would be the "phonicsization" of the whole language. It will never happen, academics have already learned to spell, and will not lower the bar for anyone else. So, we will continue to live in a world where "phonics" begins with a "p."
