On December 11, 1971, UK comedian Benny Hill was at No.1 on the UK singles chart with the innuendo-laden novelty song, 'Ernie (The Fastest Milkman In The West)', giving Hill his only No.1 and the Christmas No.1 hit of 1971. The song was originally written in 1955 as the introduction to an unfilmed screenplay about Hill's milkman experiences."

Love Benny Hill but never realized how censored he was on American tv. I was in Turkey 1980-81 and a few miles from our base was a World Bank papermill project staffed primarily by Brits and Canadians that we socialized with. The Brits had tapes of his shows from British tv and they were absolutely nothing like what we saw back home.

Loved his show . PBS ran it for a few years. We had an English minister for a few years, he was a former WW2 RAF pilot. He didn't much care for Benny though.
